Simple Halloween Upcycle

We don’t do major Halloween costumes in our house (yet!) but my daughter did want something spooky for the season so I whipped up a quick upcycled outfit.

The skirt

Halloween SkirtThe rainbow ghosts were a small scrap of fabric I found in a Glastonbury charity shop. I’m not entirely convinced it was meant to be sewn as it was so slippery and didn’t like being stretched. I suspect it was supposed to just be decorative! The black panels were from satin pillowcases found at the Wiltshire Scrapstore. I still have a king-size satin sheet to match so watch this space! The pattern was a make it up as I go along type thing. I started from a standard circle skirt pattern and added the yoga waistband from the freeΒ Love Notions Leggins’* pattern. Although the satin was woven the ghosts were stretchy so I figured it would stretch enough to get over my daughter’s hips.

The leggings

Halloween leggingsWhen I first starting sewing again I made some leggings from the free Patterns for Pirates Peg Legs pattern. At the time I was really happy with them but after a while I realised that I could really do with a gusset (which the pattern now comes with) as they just weren’t comfortable to wear for long periods. Also, I think I’m just not a leggings person! So, I decided to cut a new pair of leggings for my daughter from them. I used the Jalie Leggings pattern (which I have heavily altered and will be writing up a review for soon!) but kept my original hems to save time.
