Halloween Picture Bead Crafts

It’s that time of year again, time to get your spook on! We’re continuing with our love of Hama/Perler beads and have been googling pixel art to inspire us. Below is my daughter E, 7, building an epic Toothless found on the interwebs.

E building Toothless

We’ve purchased some glow in the dark Hobbycraft beads for Halloween and although the IKEA beads we have are slightly smaller, mixing the brands seems to be working fine. E has been planning her designs using the Perler app and here are some of the Halloween themed ones she’s made so far:

Jack-O’-Lantern

My favourite picture bead make of the season is, however, this tea-light Jack-o’-lantern. We made the sides yellow so the lantern would seem to glow but you could make it solid orange for a more traditional effect:

Jack o' lantern

Here’s the pattern for the box. The two sides with the face are the front and back although you don’t need to put the face design on both pieces. The two plain pieces are the other two sides. The purple piece is the bottom. I recommend ironing both sides of each piece for strength but do be careful not to squash the beads too much or they won’t slot together. Once assembled, pop in your tealight and you’re good to go. Just remember, battery operated tealights only! We used one of our LED candles from IKEA.
